Conventions/Bodies:Paris Convention, Berne, WIPO and WTO.
Trademarks:

Law: Trade Mark Law No.33 of 1952 amended by Law No.34 of 1999. The new amendment brings the said law into line with the TRIPS Agreement.
Classification: International Classification for goods and services. A separate application has to be filed for each class.
Examination: Examination as to registrability and existence of prior rights. A 3 month period is allowed for opposition against published trademarks.
Duration: A registration is for 10 years from the date of registration and renewable for similar periods. Late renewal is possible upon payment of additional fee. The grace period is one year after expiration of the term.
Use: Non-use for 3 years immediately preceding the application for cancellation makes the registration vulnerable to cancellation.
Assignment: Assignment of a registered trademark is possible with or without the business concerned. Recordation of an assignment in the register is mandatory.
