Saudi Arabia:

Saudi Arabia Joins  PCT and PLT
 
Dear Sirs,
 
We have the pleasure to advise you of an important development in the patent system of Saudi Arabia. Saudi Arabia has joined PCT and PLT as decided by the Ministerial Council yesterday 14 December 2009.
The decision as published is as follows:
“Having perused the State Consultative Council Decision No. 42/30 dated 15/06/1430H corresponding to 8 June 2009, the Council of Ministers resolved as follows:
First: Approving the Kingdom accession to the IPO's Patent Cooperation Treaty and its Implementing Regulations as completed in Washington on June 19, 1970, amended on September 28, 1979, February 3, 1984, and October 3, 2001 coming into effect on April 1, 2002. 
Second: Approving the Kingdom accession to the Patent Law Treaty adopted by the Diplomatic Conference in Geneva on June 1, 2000. “

Bahrain:

1. Pursuant to Ministerial Decision No. 40 issued by the Bahraini Minister of Industry and Commerce, official fees for trademark-related matters have substantially increased in Bahrain.
2. Trademark and Design Applications with priority claim accepted.
3. New Trademark Law issued – Law No. 11 of 2006.


Oman:
1. Pursuant to Ministerial decision No. 47 of 2005, was issued on March 6, 2005, and announced on July 23, 2005 stipulating the dramatically increase of the official fees by an average of more than 600% in Qatar.
2. Qatar introduces new Patent Law – Law No. 30 of 2006.

Egypt:
A legalized copy of the Certificate of Incorporation or Extract from the Commercial Register or any other equivalent document from the applicant is no longer required for filing trademark applications.

Syria:
New Trademark, Geographical Indication and Industrial Models and Design Law came into force on April 11, 2007.

GCC:
Approves Unified GCC Trademark Law of 2006.
