Law: The Copyright Law was issued by Royal Decree No. 37/2000 dated May 21, 2000 and became effective from June 3, 2000.
Oman is a member of the Berne Convention for the Protection of Literary and Artistic Works as of July 14, 1999.

Recent Accession to International Treaties and Conventions:

By Decree No. 37 of 2007 issued on April 23, 2007, Oman will accede to the following treaties and conventions related to Intellectual Property Rights. The accession will become final once the instruments of ratifications are deposited. 1. Trademark Law Treaty of 1994.
2. International Convention for the Protection of New Varieties of Plants (UPOV) of 1991.
3. Brussels Convention Relating to the Distribution of Program-Carrying Signals Transmitted by Satellite of 1974.
4. Budapest Treaty on the International Recognition of the Deposit of Microorganisms for the Purposes of Patent Procedure of 1977.
5. Patent Cooperation Treaty of 2000.
6. Protocol Relating to the Madrid Agreement Concerning the International Registration of Marks of 1989.
