Trademarks:

Law: New Trademarks Law issued by Royal Decree No. 38/2000 on May 21, 2000 and came into effect from June 3, 2000.
Classification: Oman follows International Classification of goods and services except class 33. A separate application has to be filed in each class.
Duration: Registration is for a period of 10 years renewable for similar periods. A grace period of six months is allowed for renewal.
Use: Use is not compulsory for filing application or maintaining the registration. However, a registration is vulnerable to cancellation by any interested party who can establish that the mark was not in use for a successive period of 5 years without any reasonable excuse.
Assignment: Assignment of a registration shall be together with the goodwill.
License: Recording of a license is compulsory.
Infringement: Infringement of a registered trademark is an offense and an actionable wrong.
Oman became a member of the Paris Convention for the Protection of Industrial Property as of July 1, 1999.
